Pioneer Woman

some blogs are lame. for example this one, which you are probably reading because you are my friend and feel obligated.

however-

some blogs are not.

one such non-lame blog that i read is The Pioneer Woman's . I'm pretty sure many of my obligated friends read her blog too, just without the obligation aspect.

I would now like to take you on a photographic journey through the night during which I met the Pioneer Woman....

She walks out of the stage door. Everyone stands up and blocks my flash.

She's getting closer. I see she is wearing a purple velvet blazer thing yet looks awesome.

Then she sits down to answer questions and be funny and smart and more awesome. I come to the realization that even without flash blockers, my camera is worthless.

Then she does Napoleon Dynamite and Ethel Merman impressions- only one of which i have to google when i get home to fully appreciate.

Then I got Marlboro Man's autograph. I talked to MM! It was a magical moment which Beth Ann tired to capture on my camera from the other side of the room. The picture didn't turn out quite like I had hoped.

Then Beth Ann got autographs from PW's two sons who were hilarious and adorable x2. I cry silently to myself after seeing my face in the picture of me and MM.

Then it's time for the real deal. People line up for PW. My friend Ashleigh and her mom were there and had really good ticket numbers. To spite my camera, i take some shots with my iPhone.

Then my turn arrives. I sit down and immediately begin blabbering a story about this burn mark on my nose from a tragic grease splatter incident that occurred while trying to make her chicken fried steak the night before in celebration of THIS VERY MOMENT.

After realizing I got some blah on her jacket, I show her my sweaty palms and explain I'm nervous.

Then I confess that the grease splatter burn only occurred because I don't own the proper kitchen utensils.

Then a miracle- she laughs with/at me. It's possible that this picture only captured a coincidental moment where we are both laughing at the same time, but if you squint, it looks like she thinks I'm funny.

And finally, here we are. Just two bloggers, faces overexposed by my remorseless camera flash.

Ashleigh

so i learned that my friend Ashleigh reads my blog because she commented on my last post. this post is for her.

Dear Ashleigh,

Remember when we went out for your birthday? Remember when you stepped on my foot? (You might not). I didn't want to concern you at the time, since it was your birthday and all, but I think enough time has passed for you to find out the truth.

But really Ash, no hard feelings. The pain and swelling only lasted a week and a half, and now it's almost completed back to normal color.

Oh and I'm sorry about my toenails in the picture. I was planning on getting a pedicure later that weekend but, well, i had to cancel.

Love,
Catharine

I repent, I repent

I understand that no one else cares if car accessories annoy me, and that it's my own choice to let them annoy me. So then why since my last blog post, have the forces of the universe banned together to try and punish me for having a low annoyance tolerance? Here are just a few examples I got pictures of.

Example #1: Phelps followers outside the Killers concert with signs proclaiming messages of love and tolerance such as "God Hates You" and "You Will Eat Your Babies".

Example #2: What is it and why can't it go faster than 12 mph?

Example #3: I don't care if they are lesbians or not, must they spoon on the floor in an airport? Must she wear those pants?

Example #4: Bad day for someone at my office. And now I have to go to 2nd floor to use the restroom.

Example #5: Surely I don't need to explain.

Example #6: Actually this guy was probably the highlight of my Chief's game day experience.

So I take back #6 and I promise to be less annoy-able in the future.

carcoon?

As a general rule, I hate car accessories. By that I mean anything that gives your car "personality" is going to annoy me. Bumper stickers, fuzzy seat covers, dice/lei/anything hanging from your rear view mirror, bullet hole decals, the baseball that appears to have smashed through your back window, I could go on but I'm getting stressed out.

Things reached an all new low when I saw this recently in a local movie theater parking lot.

Let's zoom in just to make sure you understand the severity of the situation.

Yes, it's a raccoon. A moment of silence please.

there's no place like home

I sat next to a Canadian man on an airplane a few years ago who asked where I lived. Kansas City I said, and he asked what Kansas was like. KANSAS?? HOW DARE HE.

Why would he think Kansas City is in Kansas?

I calmly explained that I actually lived in Missouri and the city is right on the state line. Then I got out the Northwest Airlines magazine "Sky" from the seat back pocket to show him where KC is on a map.

Then he showed me where he lives in Canada. Then we ate peanuts.

When I moved to Missouri as an awkward 12 year old, I thought Kansas was stupid. In my 6th grade yearbook I specifically remember one unlearned child wrote "Have fun in Kansas" and I was SO MAD. I'M NOT MOVING TO KANSAS.

What I'm trying to say is that my feelings about Kansas have changed. I don't mind Kansas anymore. I live in Kansas now, and have yet to be eaten by Prairie Shrews. It's not so bad.
